Alexander Zahel is an Austrian winemaker and wine merchant whose work is rooted in regenerative, organic, and biodynamic agriculture.

After completing his degree in Oenology in 2005 and spending two vintages gaining experience in New Zealand and Australia, Alex returned to his native Vienna to partner with his uncle in developing the family estate.

Over the course of nearly two decades, Alex went on to become General
Manager and a shareholder, helping grow the family estate into an internationally recognized winery while leading its transition to organic farming in 2014 and biodynamic certification in 2018.

His work toward more conscious and environmentally responsible farming practices inspired him to pursue Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) status. In early 2024, the winery achieved certification, becoming the first regeneratively certified winery in Europe.

After parting ways with the family estate in July 2024, Alex and his wife, Hilary, began a new chapter. 􀏦ithout immediate access to vineyards or a cellar, they needed to think creatively. Inspired by the French micro-négoce model, they began building a network of partner wineries across Austria, collaborating to produce wines grounded in low-intervention practices. Alongside this work, their portfolio has expanded to include a range of imports from France, Spain, and Italy, sourced from producers equally committed to thoughtful farming.
